Las Vegas Travel Safety Tips - Part 1

Practical Tips To Avoid Becoming A Target

Planning your first trip to Las Vegas? Enjoy your stay in Sin City without the pain of losing your watch, your phone or your wallet! In this first safety post I’ll be sharing essential safety tips every Vegas visitor should know. Let’s get started…

While the tourist areas of Las Vegas are relatively safe, a few simple steps can reduce your risk of becoming a victim of a “crime of opportunity.”

Vegas Safety Tip #1 - Leave Your Rolex At Home

Leave your Rolex at home. It’s relatively small, insanely valuable and highly prized by the bad guys (or girls) as seen in these quick searches: “stolen Rolex Las Vegas.”

This advice applies to ANY item of value that makes you a target! While extremely rare, criminals want your valuables enough to kill you.

Trick Roll or Trick Rolling is a crime that involves an escort or prostitute luring an unsuspecting individual (the trick) into a situation where they can be robbed.

Side Note: Regardless of the stories you hear, prostitution is NOT LEGAL in Las Vegas!

Bonus Vegas Safety Tip - Just Say No!

If you are ALONE, nicely dressed, smell good and look successful - you WILL be approached, especially in an upscale (luxury) hotel or casino. The conversation usually starts with “Hey Baby, want some company?” The correct (safe) response should always be a simple “No Thank You.” She will move on to another target. If she does NOT leave, ask the nearest hotel employee to contact security and your new “friend” will move quickly to the nearest exit.

Vegas Safety Tip #2 - Keep Close Tabs On Your Phone!

I have no documented statistics to support this, BUT based on years of experience in Las Vegas Casino and Hotel Security, I firmly believe that cell phones and especially iPhones, are the #1 stolen item in Vegas! Often stolen from bars, clubs and restaurants - do not leave your phone unattended. If you are from another country (looking at you Japan) where it is safe to leave your phone on the table to “save” your spot in a fast food restaurant or coffee shop…in Sin City that translates to FREE PHONE! Don’t do it.

Make Smart Choices!

There are so many fun things to see and do in Las Vegas, it can be a great adventure! By following these simple tips you can make your visit safer and you’ll leave with empty pockets, a big smile and a phone full of crazy memories!
